As restitution conversations grew in 2020, we noticed a critical gap: while artifacts were being physically returned, their digital twins remained trapped in proprietary servers, inaccessible to their communities of origin. This digital divide threatened to repeat past mistakes, denying African creators and historians intellectual ownership of their own heritage.
We founded Axis Ibeji to engineer a true 'Digital Restitution.'
